Destination Wedding Makeup Artist Alicante | Tayla's Gorgeous Wedding At La Plantación

When I was asked if I could come out to the beautiful little town of Finestrat, in the Valencian region of Spain, to get Tayla and her bridesmaids ready for her wedding I jumped at the opportunity.

My husband (Matt Ebbage Photography) and I packed up our collective kits and set off for this mini adventure. The little town of Finestrat was where Tayla spent her childhood growing up, her parents and grandmother both live out in Spain so the family connection to this was simply charming.

When we arrived, it was averaging about 29 degrees but the humidity was about 80%. This can be quite challenging for hair & make-up, but I was armed with some amazing products that I knew were not going to let me down.

Skin Care & Primer

Because the humidity in Spain was so high I had to be really selective of the primers and moisturisers I was going to use; I needed products that were not going to leave greasy finish. Tayla's skin was a little on the dry side, so I massaged and prepped the skin with Frances Prescott Tri Balm. This really helped gently exfoliate on the morning of the wedding, also helping to remove any SPF from the day before. I then misted the Avene Thermal Mist all over the face to settle any irritation. Becca's Skin Love Serum was then applied all over the face, this little beauty was ideal for this climate as it is packed with all the ingredients to supercharge the moisture levels in the skin, but it doesn't leave a greasy residue.

I then layered a small amount of the Bobbi Brown Gel Cream over the serum, and allowed this to sink in.  A little of my ever faithful La Roche Posay Eyecream was applied to the eye contour.

All the skin care was left to settle for 5 minutes before I added Becca's First Light Primer to really lift the complexion. This purple pigmented primer is lightweight and again packed with skin care benefits.

All the products I picked were:

  • lightweight

  • water based consistancy

  • packed with skin care benefits to really layer on the hydration

Base

Tayla had a lovely hint of colour on her face by the day of the wedding, so with this in mind I applied the sheerest coverage in the Mac Face And Body first. I blended this with a beauty blender. I then had two shades of the Armani Silk Foundation I used to build up the coverage where needed. This foundation has a lovely soft glowy finish, again I blended with a damp beauty blender. I left the foundation to settle for a while before pressing in the powder. I used my usual Bobbi Brown Concealing BBU Palette to correct and conceal. I then used By Terry Touche Velouttee to add over the cheekbones and down the side of the nose, just to add a little more highlight. This creamy constancy is really lovely to work with.

I applied a hint of cream blusher by Bobbi Brown in Powder Pink on the apples of the cheeks to give the powder blush some staying power.

Bobbi Brown Loose Powder was used to powder the face, because of the the humidity I chose the press this into the skin using a powder puff. This just ensured that minimal shine could happen. I then softly sculpted the face using the Becca Be A Light Palette. Tom Ford Bronzer in Terra was buffed into all the places the sun would naturally hit the face.

Eyes

Eyebrows were gently filled in using a Charlotte Tilbury Eyebrow Pencil and finished by combing through a clear brow gel.

Blush & Highlight

Mac Powder Blush in Gingerly was swept all over the cheeks and then a bright Bobbi Brown Coral was used on the apples of the cheeks. Becca Moonstone Powder Highlighter was dusted over all the high points of the face and in the cupids Bow.

Tom Ford Soleil Blanc Dry Body Oil was used on the arms and shoulders to give that lovely dewy sheen.

Lips

I used Bobbi Brown Lip Liner in Pale Mauve & the Bobbi Luxe Lip Colour in Pale Mauve for the perfect creamy nudey pink.

I used blot paper on Tayla before misting a good dose of Urban Decay’s De Slick Setting Spray.

Hair

Taylas Beautiful tousled up do was created using my ever faithful GHD Creative Curl Wand. I prepped and set the hair with Bumble & Bumble Curl Pre Style Primer, this product has UV Protectors and combats the anti-frizz by coating the hair with its unique hydra sculpt blend, the ideal choice for the humid environment.

The up do was created by adding Milk & Blush Hair Extensions in 20-22“ in the Duluxe Range. Texture was added by using Lush Sea Salt Spray & I used Loreal Tecni Art Anti Frizz Spray as my choice of finishing spray.

Tips For Make-Up In Hot Humid Environments

  • Find the right products for your skin. Think lightweight and ‘easy to build’ when it comes to coverage.

  • Remember less is more. If it’s warm and you already have a beautiful glow, try and steer away from full coverage foundations if you can.

  • Keep skincare lightweight, layer it on in steps, pack on a hydrating serum and then add a lightweight moisturiser. Leave all the products to settle on the skin for at least five minutes.

  • Stick to waterproof mascara and set your make-up with a loose powder.

  • Maintain your make-up by using blot powder every time you re-powder (apply before). Then spritz a fresh mist of setting spray.

  • Bobbi Brown Foundation Sticks are amazing for topping up foundation.
